Why or why not should this man be fined $10 for shooting a slave in the back while she was trying to escape? Our team had to fight for Mann against the State. I personally found that hard being an African American women and having to fight for slavery, but then again it taught me something. It put me out of my comfort zone and it lead me to learning something new. Even though the state had good points with religion and property we had better points. My favorite evidence we used was the bible, we used the verse “Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.” (Peter 2:18: )Mann owned Lydia (rented from Lydia Jones therefore under Mann’s control) at the time therefore he was her master.-slaves had a Christian obligation to submit to their masters. -slaves should be resigned to their fate, as by obeying his master he is obeying God to prove our point through religion. This showed that even though Mann could've been in the wrong, Lydia was his property, therefore she is under his control. I found myself listening to what the other team had to say and being able to turn it around and make them question what they're saying a little bit. In the end, I firmly do believe that I learned something and my classmates did as well. We all agreed that we enjoyed doing the mock trial and that we liked how people started to open up to the race issue, because it isn't talked about enough in America.
